1933:

Universal debuts its film version of H.G. Wells' The Invisible Man. James Whale directs, Claude Rains and Gloria Stuart star.

1940:

Walt Disney's animated feature film Fantasia premieres. Fantasound, a multi-channel sound playback system developed by the Disney engineers, is introduced in a limited number of theaters in support of the film.

1971:

Steven Spielberg's critically acclaimed Movie of the Week Duel airs on ABC.

1991:

Disney premieres Beauty and the Beast. The film goes on to win the Best Picture (Comedy or Musical) Golden Globe, and became the first animated feature to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.
