Best Actor

Gene Hackman (The Royal Tenenbaums)

Despite an occasional placement in some awards ceremonies as supporting actor, our voters chose unanimously to place Gene Hackman in the Lead Actor performance, where his curmudgeonly patriarch of the Tenenbaum clan was able to edge out Russell Crowe's portrayal of a schizophrenic mathematician in A Beautiful Mind, mostly from the very high rating given to Hackman by almost all voters who did choose him (he received seven first place votes). Guy Pearce's tragic amnesiac in Memento had a strong showing for third place. Ewan McGregor sang and moped his way into fourth place while Billy Bob Thornton (my personal choice) was able to slip into fifth as a result of the high vote totals at the top of the category. Strong Oscar candidates Will Smith and Denzel Washington finished sixth and seventh respectively.
